Mississippi swamp

A swamp is water on top of land. A marsh is land on top of water. Swamps are flooded; marshes wobble when you walk on them.

Louisiana and Mississippi are full of swamps, and cypress trees grow in them quite nicely. They’re not silent places; the calls of birds and tree frogs are tremendously loud. Yet, somehow, they’re very peaceful.
