Images of the Castro

The Castro is a friendly, welcoming and barmy part of the city. We all have fond memories of our time there (well, maybe not Max; he may have been traumatised by the things he saw. Being 11 is tricky). It’s such a bonkers, free and unusual place, that some Bay Area locals take their children there at Halloween just to gawk. Personally, I think that’s an invasion, judgement and misunderstanding of this most unusual and open community, but that’s not going to stop me posting a couple of photos of the more flamboyant images we saw.

Strictly speaking, this wasn't taken in the Castro. But it could have been.

Strictly speaking, this wasn’t taken in the Castro. But it could have been.

It's a naked man with just a sock on his willy. Obviously. Because it was a warm day. And this wasn't a one-off sighting.

“Mummy, why is that man wearing nothing but a sock on his willy?” Because it’s a warm day, because he can and because this is the Castro.
